Review of the Training Mission in Gumri

Three Technical Training Sessions at the Workshop

From May 15th to 29th, three French ceramists visited Gumri, at the workshop of our partner, the Family Care Foundation, to lead technical missions as part of the ceramic workshop’s ongoing development program.

Open to the public, around twenty people, including graduates and students from the Fine Arts of Gumri or enthusiasts, chose to attend courses in three specialties (casting, molding, glazing/kiln firing) led by Jacques Lardin, Raphaël Mick, and Gérard Leclercq.

Furthermore, the objective of this mission was to create a molding space to produce the molds necessary for slipcasting, a technique acquired last year during a previous mission in May 2022 with Jacques Lardin and Gérard Leclercq.

A More Autonomous and Professional Workshop

“This year, the quality of the candidates, who were very involved, allowed us to make great progress in training, especially with the possibility of hiring them at the end of the internship if the skills were acquired.” – Jacques Lardin

The establishment of new manufacturing spaces, as well as the recruitment of four new individuals at these stages, meet the needs of the workshop.

Furthermore, during his stay in Gumri, Gérard Leclercq was able to repair a damaged kiln and analyze the team’s needs regarding kiln firings.

Thus, this mission marks a real turning point in the team’s skill development and empowerment. Indeed, Muscari and Family Care have been working for many years on job creation and the economic and tourist revitalization of the city. In summary, the next steps involve implementing an alternating training program in art ceramics.

The teams of the Family Care Foundation and the Muscari association, as well as the participants in the training, renew their sincere thanks to the ceramists who made this mission possible, Jacques Lardin, Gérard Leclercq, and Raphaël Mick.
