Tribute Evening to Osman Kavala
As an extension of her research on the political economy of subjugation, Béatrice Hibou conceives a protean evening around the multiple modalities of “suspension” that accompany the exercise of power in authoritarian situations.
By what devices do governors play on the uncertain, the unstable, the unpredictable, the vulnerable and the precarious? What is the significance of consensus and what are the effects of the recurrence of states of exception? How does the language of power help to persuade, normalize behavior and anesthetize minds? What do formalism and bureaucratisation produce in terms of apprehending the real and distancing? During this evening, she invites various personalities (publishers, analysts, directors, musicians) to embody in turn one of these reflections.
Event location: LE BAL (6 Impasse de la Defense – 75018 Paris).
